Issue Position: Jobs

Issue Position

The most widespread concern I hear across our district is simple - "Jobs." With record-high unemployment, jobs are our most critical issue.

Our region is a natural magnet for job creation because of our location and hard-working people. The majority of our jobs come from locally owned small businesses. Better job opportunities will come when Georgia encourages entrepreneurs to create and grow small businesses.

In my career, I helped farmers make their businesses more profitable by providing the information they needed to control their costs and improve their efficiency and profit. Ten years ago, I organized our local Farmers Market in Jasper, to create a venue for our local entrepreneurs to sell their goods. It's become a tradition that I'm proud of, but I know that increasing demand for goods and services is the only way to permanently increase job growth. There's no quick fix for this issue (like increased spending by the federal government), but there are actions we must take in Atlanta to put us on a path to prosperity so every Georgian who wants to work, can.

Once the economy turns around, many companies from the north will start relocating to the south. We need to be ready for them and make it an easy decision to come here.

Rick is Pro-Business:

·Rick will work to repeal the state income tax and replace it with a sales tax. This is another piece of the puzzle that will make Georgia a more competitive place for business.

·Rick will be a bold voice for small business development and lead the fight to stop frivolous lawsuits that choke all industries.

·Rick will support legislation like Representative Graves' Jobs Bill to provide tax credits to businesses that hire unemployed Gergians and to repeal the state tax on inventories.

·Rick will work to keep taxes low and manage our dollars with wisdom. Low taxes mean more money in the pockets of businesses and consumers. There will be more dollars that can be used for investment and more jobs for Georgians.

·Rick will work to develop more incentives for small businesses. Homegrown businesses and industries are the heart and soul of job creation in our region.

·Rick will work closely with Chambers of Commerce and Economic Development to recruit other businesses to our beautiful part of this state.

·Rick will work tirelessly to maintain our attractiveness to businesses by keeping regulations to a minimum, utilities low, and a right-to-work environment for our workforce.

Going hand-in-hand with jobs and economic development is excellence in our education system. We have great school systems, technical colleges, and traditional colleges in our area. You know I will work to continue to build a world-class education system in Georgia.
